Younger brother of Miles.

Deposed in 1760 petition by John DeCourcy of Rhode Island claiming titles of Baron of Kingsale, Courcy and Ringrone. Supported his claim which was acknowledged. August 27, 1761. See: Copy of Report of Phillip Tisdall Esq. Attorney General and John Gore Esq. Solicitor General for Ireland: Secretary's office, Dublin Castle.

Estimated age in this 1761 report was "upwards of 70". Above report does not mention whether he had any issue.

DeBreffny 1972 article suggests there was a 1756 statement made by then Baron Gerald DeCourcy that mentions John of Kilnaclowny married to Rebecca Bishop, but without issue at that date.

For many years John of Kilnaclowny was considered next male in line for titles when Gerald (24th) DeCourcy died. Given John's age and lack of heirs, Gerald's three daughters felt the male line would be extinguished soon and rights and properties would devolve to them.

John's older brother Miles (who thus had a superior claim) had quit the family and kingdom many years earlier. A search for heirs was undertaken. Though Miles had been "lost at sea", his son John of Newport was found and invited to take come to Ireland to accept titles.

Rebecca Bishop was daughter of Kinsale councilman William Bishop.
